In a village where tradition, blood ties and the land are sacred, an unnamed bride runs away from her wedding reception with her married former suitor, Leonardo. The bridegroom and Leonardo kill each other, leaving the bereaved women—Leonardo’s wife, the groom’s mother, and the bride—to bewail their losses.
This production was preformed in a hybrid mix of English and Arabic in an anachronistic setting that borrowed from rural Egyptian and rural Spanish aesthetics without fully committing to either. With visual inspiration from Frida Kahlo’s Two Fridas serving as the visual starting point as per my initial conversation with the director.
