It tells the story of an amnesiac, Claire, who awakens each morning as a blank slate on which her husband and teenage son must imprint the facts of her life. One morning Claire is abducted by a limping, lisping man who claims her husband wants to kill her.
The main visual inspirations for this play were carnivals and funny mirrors, and we were really encouraged to go all out with colors and textures. There was a general sense of asymmetry and chaos that complimented the wonky dialogue and events. Jeanne assigned me with organizational work which included scene and character breakdowns. We compared notes on our character interpretations and Jeanne suggested that Jillian our director prefers to see a lot of references instead of set sketches. So I set to work researching and pulling references for our characters. I suggested that we create mood boards and show them to Jillian in our next design meeting.
